Truck Driving Schools – What They Will Not Tell You

July 7th, 2009 Dan the Trucker No comments

Throughout the course of my trucking career, I have met many drivers who have completed a truck driving course and obtained their CDL, but they cannot get hired. The reason given to them is always the same – they do not have enough experience.

Truck driving schools will always tell you that you will have no problems getting hired after you obtained your CDL. This is true, to some extent. What they do not tell you is the important factor that you must know before you join a truck driving school. These new drivers who have spent thousands of dollars to get a CDL, but have no driving experience, could not get hired. It really is not the company that won’t hire them, but the problem lies with their insurance company. The trucking company’s insurance carrier is actually the one that requires the six months to a year of experience.

If the truck driving school tells you that you will have no problem getting hired, ask them about the six months to a year of experience that the insurance companies require and see what they say. In my next post, I will share with you what I experienced throughout the years and how I avoided scams by trucking companies.
